To safeguard your peace of mind when banking online, we have an additional layer of security to our Online Banking service called the 'code card'.
The code card is simply a card that contains a list of 100 individual code numbers. The code card is unique for every customer and each code on the code card will only ever be used once. We have combined information that only you know (your registration number and Personal Access Code) with information that you will now have in your possession (the code card) this is known as '2nd factor authentication'.
You will be required to use your code card to complete certain transactions using Online Banking.
First Trust Bank is aware that fraudulent emails are being circulated to our customers at present. There has also been an increase in Trojan/Virus activity requesting code card numbers.
DO NOT give out ANY personal or security details including your Personal Access Code (PAC) or codes from your code card.
DO NOT enter a code(s) from your code card at log in.
DO contact us if you receive a fraudulent email or if you see any suspicious activity when using Online Banking.
If you receive an email requesting these details, do not click on any links, do not open any attachments and do not reply to the email. Immediately forward it to alert@aib.ie.
If you notice any unusual or suspicious activity when using Online Banking, stop using the computer and immediately contact us on 028 9034 6034.
You will require a code card for the following services:
If you have never previously held a code card you can order the card online through Online Banking.
The card can be ordered anytime when you select one of the services which requires a code from the code card.
When you order your code card through Online Banking, it will be sent to you in the post and you will receive it within three to five banking days.
If you do not receive your code card within this timeframe, please contact our customer adviser team on 028 9034 6034 between 08:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
Your code card should be kept in a secure place. You should not tell anyone the codes on your card.
No, you will NEVER be asked to enter a code from your code card to log in to Online Banking.

If the code you entered is incorrect on your first attempt to confirm a transaction, you will have two more attempts to enter the correct code. If you are not successful on the next two attempts your transaction will not be processed and your code card will be 'locked'.
You will need to contact a customer service adviser on 028 9034 6034 between 08:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
If your code card is lost or stolen please contact our customer service adviser team on 028 9034 6034 immediately and your code card will be cancelled straight away.
To make things even more secure, your code card has a limited life. Each code can be used only once. When you have used up most of your codes, you will automatically be issued with a new code card.
Our customer service advisers are available on 028 9034 6034 between 08:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday to assist you with any further queries relating to the code card.
