At AIB we take security seriously. We aim to protect you against the threats associated with internet fraud. However, it's important that you also take care to guard your information against internet fraudsters. Here, you will find details of specific current security threats to our internet banking customers and alerts that you should be aware of.
AIB is aware of recent reports of a fraudulent pop up window that appears while logged in to AIB Internet Banking.
A recent example of the pop up states 'that the Code Card associated with your account is due to expire in the next 30days.'. The pop up then directs you to enter all five digits of your Personal Access Code (PAC) and 100 digits from your AIB Code Card to allow you to access your account.
These pop up messages are NOT from AIB, they are a fraudulent attempt to obtain your banking details and are caused by malware which has infected your computer. (Malware refers to software programs designed to damage or do other unwanted actions on a computer system. Common examples of malware include viruses, worms, trojan horses and spyware).
DO NOT enter your code card details into the fraudulent pop up window.
DO contact us immediately if you are presented a pop up window within Internet Banking.
DO run a scan from your anti-virus software to help detect any viruses which may be on your computer.
DO NOT log on to AIB Internet Banking from the infected computer until all viruses have been professionally removed.

It has come to our attention that a number of phone calls claiming to be from Software or Anti-Virus companies are in circulation.
When you answer the phone, the caller will advise you that they are technical support and noticed from their records that you might need to have your computer updated. They usually include a threat such as telling you your whole system is about to collapse or that all of your passwords and security keys are going to be made known in the public domain unless you perform the required upgrade, etc. It is important to note, the caller is using this opportunity to install virus software to your computer to obtain your personal details.
You maybe lulled into a false sense of security by the caller. In some cases, they are able to provide you with personal information such as your credit card number or home address, etc.
The call can result, on occasion, with customers giving all their credit or debit card details or agreeing to make payments online via money transfer agents, for the service provided. At this stage the fraudster obtains the relevant card details through either the virus installed or indeed if you provide your card details. The fraudster will be able to complete further transactions on your card without your knowledge.
