Tips and Hints for Preparing an Application

Sometimes, we receive applications for the AIB Better Ireland Programme that do not - do justice - for the group that have prepared it. The committee that assesses the application can only base their decision on the information that is provided to them so please take the time to read the following hints and tips for filling out an application!

The most important thing is to PREPARE

Photocopy the application to use as a draft, then rewrite/type on your original, mistakes on the original look untidy. Then photocopy/print out your completed form so that you have a record of what you've said if you get that telephone call!

Read the application very carefully before you start to fill it out. Be very clear about what each question asks. You can also call the Better Ireland Programme team with any queries you may have about filling out the form.

Each section of the application form must have an answer even if you put N/A -not applicable, otherwise it might seem that you had just forgotten to fill it out.

Write your answers clearly as messy hand writing is difficult to read and understand.

Add every piece of information that will strengthen your application

The Application Form

If you feel that by providing additional information that we will gain a better understanding of your project then please feel free to attach it to the application.

Group Details

  • This section is looking for just the basic information about your group.
  • The contact name given will be the person that we will phone if there are any further queries about the application therefore that person must know all the details of the application.
  • It does not matter you are a customer of AIB or not - however the details of the nearest branch to you must be given.

Project Details

  • This section is looking for background information about your group and how it intends to help children that fall under our 3 chosen causes.
  • Objectives - This is where you get more specific, your objectives are what you do to turn your aim or goal into reality.
  • All of the participants in your group must be under 18 and must be affected by poverty, drug & alcohol abuse or homelessness.
  • Background Information - You need to give information on how you started out, what aims and objectives you have achieved, who has benefited from your work etc. This information is important and should give a detailed insight as to how your group targets disadvantaged children in your community.
  • You also need to give details of the main activities that your group is involved in - try to show a progression for the children involved, such as continued education or a first job, which the group has helped develop.
  • If you feel that by providing additional information that we will gain a better understanding of your project then please feel free to attach it to the application.
